EGOS2024
I am back from Milano, where I enjoyed meeting outstanding scholars. After gaining insights from various papers on emotions and institutions, I presented my latest work on “What lies beyond tugging emotional heartstrings? Actors and institutional-rooted dynamics with grand challenges.”
In this scoping review, I introduced innovative ontological, epistemological, and theoretical perspectives by investigating the role of “affect” and “emotions” within the context of Grand Challenges (GCs), such as climate change.
This also investigates the connection between core values, emotional responses, and disparities in public reactions, emphasizing the need for tailored climate communication strategies.
Emergent crises are rooted in institutional inadequacies and imbalances. Avoidance and denial are also deeply embedded in institutional practices and societal norms.
Therefore, management researchers must be actively committed rather than merely delegating these issues to environmental scientists. This critical approach is paramount for enabling energizing and sustainable narratives and practices in the face of global crises.
Nurturing respect, awareness, consideration, and empathy among humans and towards non-human elements is essential for achieving a more sustainable and fair coexistence. Recently, Dahlmann (2024) proposed a new conceptualization of sustainability as the “pursuit of life,” recognizing the interdependence of human and ecological systems.
My presentation was part of Sub-theme 43: Institutions and People at Crossroads: The Hidden Role of Emotions in Understanding Actions and Disruptions, led by the three fantastic 🌟 Rongrong Zhang, 🌟 Simona Giorgi (online), and Maxim Voronov 🌟
There were so many fascinating conversations and presentations!
And thanks to everyone for enacting and sharing such resonant emotional moments 🙏
🌟 I am also grateful to all committed students for organizing and helping and to all the much-needed working people who are often hidden and underrecognized (food, catering, cleaning, etc.) 🌟
